Polymer solar cells (PSCs) are considered as being one of the most important renewable resources. There are limitations of low power conversion efficiencies due to the mismatch between the solar spectrum and the absorption spectra of the active layer. To overcome the limitation, development of new low band gap polymers is important. Low band gap polymer, PBDTTPD, based on electron donating benzodithiophenes (BDT), and electron accepting thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) was reported. PSCs consisting of PBDTTPD and PCBM71 showed over 6%, which is due to high open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.86V and high charge mobility from ideal molecular orientation. Since the bandgap of PBDTTPD (1.8 eV) is larger than the ideal one (~ 1.5 eV), the development of new polymer having stronger electron withdrawing is necessary for further increase in the device performance. Therefore, we report a series of novel low band gap polymers consisting of TPD group and stronger electron withdrawing groups. |
