The mechanical properties, wear resistance, and fuel economy characteristics of the silica/SBR compound used as the tire tread are related to the silica dispersibility. Recently, some researches on the wet masterbatch (WMB) system was done to improve the silica dispersibility in silica/SBR compound. However, WMB has a limitation in that the silica dispersant of the conventional dry masterbatch could not be used. In this study, amphipathic silica dispersant was prepared by the emulsion ter-polymerization of carboxylized acrylic monomer, acrylamide, and divinylbenzene. We also prepared the silica/SBR compound with terpolymer dispersant using WMB system. The vulcanization properties of the silica/SBR compound were measured by a Moving Die Rheometer. In addition, we investigated silica dispersibility using Rubber Process Analyzer. Mechanical properties, wear resistance, and fuel consumption characteristics of the compound were also compared. |
