The small and uniform sized magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized by via a reaction of Fe(III)-stearate with hydrazine in reverse micelles composed of oleylamine, F127, xylene, and water at the reaction temperature of 90 °C in air atmosphere. In the synthesis, oleylamine acted as a major surfactant to make monodisperse nanoparticles, while F127 make stable reverse micelles in the xylene solution. By contolloing the experimental conditions including kind of carboylate ion of Fe(III) precursor, we could easily control the size the magnetite nanoparticles. These small and unifom magnetic nanoparticles are usefull in the various biomedical applications, for example, sensing and drug targeting. We are currently working on the use of these small nanoparticles as a T2 MRI contrast agent. |
