Plasticity in Cu-based bulk metallic glass composite containing brass phase synthesized by warm consolidation |

In the present study, we report the synthesis of the Cu-based bulk metallic glasses matrix composites containing metal powders by spark plasma sintering and warm extrusion of atomized powders, which have been prepared by a high-pressure Ar gas atomization. The effect of volume fraction and distribution of the brass phase on the mechanical properties of BMG composite has been studied. By warm consolidation of amorphous and metal powders in the supercooled liquid region, Cu-based metallic glass matrix composite sample disc shape and bar shape are succesfully synthesized. The confined metal powders phase prevented the bulk metallic glass matrix composites from catastrophic failure, and enabled plastic deformation under uniaxial compression. The effect of volume fraction and distribution of the second phase on the metallic glass matrix composites and mechanical properties has been also studied. |
