Magneto-responsive materials are one of emerging candidates for shape-reconfigurable devices. In comparison with other stimuli-responsive materials, magneto-responsive materials provide programmability of uniform alignment and resultant mechanical actuation in a dry environment at room temperature. Also, propagation of magnetic field is not limited by the obstacles between the magnetic source and the target objects. In this study, we prepared magneto-response polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-iron particle composite microarrays via replica molding. To pre-program various alignment states of iron particles, external magnetic field was applied before curing the matrix. In this presentation, we report on-demand magneto-actuation of microarrays with programmable actuation modes by varying the alignment of the magnetic component. |
