The synthesis of new monomers from renewable resources and their polymerization to the polymers with special properties have been received great attention in recent years. Among the renewable resources, cardanol a meta-substituted phenol from the cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) has great advantages due to its unique properties such as improved flexibility and better processability compare with conventional phenolic resin, heat and electrical resistance, and lower price, etc. Herein, a new self-crosslinkable polymer is synthesized from the cardanol derivative. The synthesized polymer has better mechanical properties compare to conventional poly(cardanol). Additionally, it shows enhanced thermal stability, antibacterial property, and highly glossy. Conclusively, the new polymer is supposed to be a promising candidate for surface coating material. |
