Designing bioadhesive hydrogel with multi-functional properties, such as adhesiveness, biocompatibility, and therapeutic effects, has been extensive attention in biomedical fields. Recently, many researchers have endeavored to develop a bioactive adhesive delivering therapeutic agents for improving wound healing and tissue regeneration. Among these factors, it is demonstrated that zinc ion (Zn2+) plays an important role in wound healing, including proliferation, angiogenesis, and collagen deposition. Herein, we develop Zn2+-releasing gelatin-based adhesive hydrogels via zinc peroxide (ZnO2)-mediated cross-linking. Our hydrogels show tunable physicochemical properties and Zn2+-sustained release profiles for 28 days. Notably, our bioactive adhesives have strong adhesive strength (34-93 kPa) and exhibit the efficient hemostatic effect in vivo. In sum, our Zn2+-releasing adhesive hydrogels show great potential as advanced bioadhesives for wound management. |
