Harvesting energy directly from sunlight using photovoltaic cells is a very important way to address growing global energy needs with a renewable resource while minimizing detrimental effects on the environment. For this purpose, the development of polymeric photovoltaic cells has received a great deal of attention from both academic and industrial laboratories. We synthesize new copolymers with wide absorption (or low band gab) and large Voc (open circuit voltage) for improving incident photon conversion efficiency (IPCE). We introduce vinylene linkage to stretch p-conjugation lengths. In this presentation, synthesis, optical, and photovoltaic properties of new copolymers based on 4,7-Di-thiophen-2-yl-benzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole will be discussed. |
