Biological carbon capture and utilization system using enzymes from microalgae |
초록 |
In microalgae, carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an important biocatalyst that captures CO2 and produces bicarbonate. Another biocatalyst is phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase) to produce C4 chemical, oxaloacetate, from bicarbonate. The development and implementation of strategies for CO2 mitigation technology is necessary to offset the greenhouse gas effect of carbon dioxide emissions. There is the possibility of the capture and utilization of CO2 (CCU) in which waste CO2 is recycled and converted into value added chemicals. To introduce the possibility of bio-based CCU, integrated systems using CA and PEPCase to mimic the in vivo process of carbon dioxide concentration mechanism has been developed in our laboratory. The genetically engineered CA of Dunaliella sp. and PEPCase of Phaeodactylum tricornutum successfully catalyzed a consecutive reaction to generate C4 di-carboxylic acid (OAA). Thus, combined CA-PEPCase specially derived from microalgae could open a possible platform technology for simultaneous CO2 capture and utilization. |
