Chemical sensors using molecularly imprinting polymer (MIP) have extensively been used to detect a template molecule. However, an analysis of MIP chemical sensors to detect a target molecule is so complicated because it requires specific analytical instruments such as surface plasmon resonance (SPR), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and potentiometer. In this study, we present electro-responsive MIP hydrogel actuators which detect BSA as the template molecule using reversible bending motion. Hydrogel actuators consist of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS), acrylamide (AAm) and functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) whose functionality is provided with 3-mercaptopropionic acid and allyl mercaptan as self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). The functionalized AuNPs function as cross-linking point and binding site. Hydrogel composite actuators with functionalized AuNPs are characterized by TEM, UV-Vis and FT-IR. |
