Robust Mineralized Nanoparticles Based on PEGylated Hyaluronic Acid As Drug Carriers for Cancer Therapy |

Self-assembled hyaluronic acid (HA) nanoparticles have been regarded as promising drug carriers for cancer therapy because they can specifically bind to cancer cells over-expressing CD44, a HA receptor. However, a main problem of HA-based drug carriers in cancer therapy is the preferential accumulation at the liver site after their systemic administration. In an attempt to surmount this problem, we have prepared mineralized PEGylated hyaluronic acid nanoparticles (M-PEG-HANPs), which could encapsulate a quantity of poorly water-soluble anticancer drugs and selectively release the drugs in the acidic condition. The physicochemical characteristics of M-PEG-HANPs were investigated using transmission electron microscope (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), FT-IR spectroscopy, and zeta-potential analyzer. |
