In recent years, development of benzoxazine based on renewable organic materials has attracted great attention. Natural polymers have advantages over synthetic polymers in terms of bio-compatibility, bio-degradability and sustainability. Hybridization of bio-polymers and synthetic polymers may lead to polymer blends or copolymers with enhanced properties and promising applications. Herein, we prepared a novel class of bio-based cross-linked polymers combining the molecular structure of both chitosan and polybenzoxazine. Benzoxazine monomer was synthesized through Mannich condensation reaction of eugenol, tetra ethylene pentamine (TEPA), in the presence of paraformaldehyde. The structure and the properties of benzoxazine were analyzed by FT-IR, NMR , DSC and SEM. Synergistic improvements in the thermal and mechanical properties of bio-based cross-linked polymers are observed due to the presence of oxazine-ring which provides more cross-linking density. |
