Recently, air filters based on the nanofiber have received much attention for effective performance compared to conventional micro-structured filters. Although, many researchers have studied electrospinning process to prepare nanofiber, surface interface engineering remains a challenge. Moreover, most air filters suffer from the complementary relations between removal efficiency and air permeability. In this study, we demonstrate a functionalized nanofiber obtained by electrospinning and reactive ion etching (RIE). The surface of the electrospun polymer nanofibers was modified by RIE with oxygen gases for generating functional groups and the thickness of nanofiber decreased rapidly during etching process. The test result showed high air flow (pressure drop: 18 Pa) compared to commercial filters (pressure drop: 26 Pa). The development of high-efficiency air filters is expected to play a major role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. |
