To treat type 1 diabetes characterized by the autoimmune destruction of the β-cells, there are several reports such as protein delivery systems and cell delivery systems. In cell delivery system, hydrogel is considered as a possible candidate cell reservoir due to its high water contents. Also, to minimize surgical process, injectable hydrogels have attracted a lot of interests and many systems have already been reported. In this study, we designed injectable hydrogel based on gelatin peptide. Among many biopolymers, we decided to use gelatin because it has many RGD sequences which can act as cell binding site, so it is expected that the gelatin containing hydrogel can enhance cell. Using injectable gelatin hydrogel, we confirmed the gelation behavior and also found that the hydrogel using this system is injectable by shear thinning property. Finally, we applied this hydrogel into islet cell carrier to monitor the high glucose level by in vivo experiment. |
