Thermally mendable olefinic thermoplastic elastomer based on maleated polyolefin elastomer/aminoacid blends |

Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) have gained considerable attentions in last decades because they possess elastomeric properties like vulcanized rubber along with melt processibility like thermoplastic. Recently, many efforts have been made to develop the TPEs with high performance and functionalities to meet the demands of variety of applications. In this study, we prepared a novel functional TPE by the melt blending of semicrystalline maleated polyolefin elastomer (mPOE) with a small amount of aminoacid (L-tyrosine and 3-Amino-4-pyrazolecarboxylic acid) in an internal mixer at 180℃. With increasing aminoacid contents in the mPOE/aminoacid blends, their tensile modulus and strength increased and melting temperature and degree of crystallinity of mPOE were decreased. The blends showed excellent thermally triggered shape memory effect and thermal mending effect on the crack upon heating around 65℃. |
