Polymers made from p-dioxanone have been employed in the manufacture of absorbable surgical devices as biodegradable polymer. Purification of this p-dioxanone is an important step in order to high molecular weight poly(p-dioxanone). Separation capacity of p-dioxanone depends mainly on the type of solvent. The solubility of p-dioxanone in various solvents such as ethyl acetate, tetrahydrofuran, acetone, methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol and 1-pentanol were measured over the temperature range from 263.05 K to 288.45 K. Also, the solubility parameter, mixing enthalpy and activity coefficient between p-dioxanone and solvent are studied through empirical equation and regular solution theory. From results of solution-layer crystallization with various solvents, the purity of p-dioxanone is increased in the order of tetrahydrofuran>ethyl acetate>acetone>methanol>ethanol. |
