Thermal conductivity of polymer composites with various fillers was investigated. Thermal conductivity was increased to 4.8 W/mK for hybrid filler (SiC+CFDKD) system, whereas that of carbon fiber (CF) and SiC were 3.0 W/mK and 1.1 W/mK at 40 vol%, respectively. The use of hybrid filler was found to be effective in increasing thermal conductivity of its composites due to formation of effective thermal conductive path. When fiber breakage is taken into consideration, better agreement between experimental results of PEEK/CFDKD and values from theoretical prediction was observed. Thermal conductivity of parallel and perpendicular direction for PEEK/CFK223 composites was 1.89 W/mK and 0.64 W/mK respectively. Also, the effect of functionalization of carbon-based fillers on thermal conductivity was discussed. |
