In this work, we fabricated a novel adsorptive membrane by loading chitosan-coated Fe3O4 nanocomposites(Fe3O4/chitosan NPs) in the poly(vinylidene fluoride) membranes. The Fe3O4/chitosan NPs immobilized on the membrane were characterized by using analytical tools such as SEM, TEM, EDX, FTIR and TGA. The functional membrane was evaluated to the removal of anionic dye in aqueous media. The results showed that the maximum adsorptive capacity was at 523.237 mg/g for Evans blue under an acidic pH. The purification procedure of 50 mL of dye solution takes only 10 sec. Next, we investigated the influence of the solution pH, surface charge of membrane and initial concentration on the removal efficiency of EB. The probable mechanism of EB removal was electrostatic interaction between positively charged chitosan and anionic EB, and anchoring of sulfonate groups of EB on the surface Fe3O4. Moreover, the adsorptive membrane can be reusable several times without reducing its original performances. |
