Though vertical circular columns erected vertically are commonly used in the distillation process, a horizontal column provides longer residence time for liquid flow giving more time of vapor-liquid contact. The previous study introduced the distillation performance of a circular horizontal column. In this study a rectangular column was utilized for the same experimental operation to examine the improvement of distillation performance. The energy consumption was reduced by 15 % compared with the conventional distillation, which demonstrates the possibility of the practical application of the horizontal diabatic distillation presented in this study. |
