Biomineralization is the process by which living organisms produce minerals. Organized surfaces of organic molecules can act as catalysts and/or molecular template for oriented crystallization. Proteins which have the secondary or tertiary structure also play the most important role. Silk Sericin(SS) is the protein which envelopes two silk fibroin fibers for forming a cocoon. SS has many polar amino acids which have a potential to biomineralize the minerals. In this study, we synthesized the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using SS as a reducing agent and template. For investigating the effect of synthesis condition such as reaction temperature, pH, time and the concentration of SS, we characterize the yields and morphology of AuNPs by UV-vis, EDS, XRD, and TEM. Because the hydroxyl groups of SS reduce the gold ions and the SS can cap the AuNPs, the largest numbers of AuNPs are produced at low concentration of SS and at pH 7. As a result, we can prepare the desired morphology of AuNPs. |
