Heart failure is one of the major public health problem, which has higher 5-year mortality than that of most cancers. In case of myocardial disease in heart failure, impairment of the specialized electrical conduction system and myocardium are frequently followed. Here, we introduce a conductive and soft epicardial mesh to wrap the heart around. The high conductivity of the epicardial mesh electrodes enabled to detect electrical signals reliably on the moving heart, without impeding diastolic function. Synchronized electrical stimulation over the ventricles improved systolic function in diseased model. The epicardial mesh could deliver electrical shock to terminate a ventricular tachyarrhythmia. The soft epicardial device integrated well with the heart and acted as a structural element, resulting in reduced wall stress. Electromechanical cardioplasty using an epicardial mesh can expand a new and achievable pathway toward reconstruction of the cardiac specialized functions. |
