Biodegradable polymer, such as PLLA, have been widely utilized as a material for biomedical applications. However, its poor mechanical properties, the acid-induced cytotoxicity by the acid materials during its biodegradation in the body, and inflammation have been severe problems, which is associated with its biomedical implants. In this study, we have addressed mechanical drawbacks by stereocomplex structure, wherein the oligo D-lactide-grafted magnesium hydroxide that was synthesized by grafting D-lactide on the surface of magnesium hydroxide, was blended to the poly(L-lactide) film. The structure, pH-change, thermal, and mechanical properties of MgO-ODLAs were analyzed by FTIR, solid-state 13C NMR, XRD, DSC, SEM, pH, TGA, and UTM. The neutralizing effect of MgO-ODLA on the by-products of poly(L-lactide) was also verified, and its positive effects on inflammation and cytotoxicity were confirmed through in vitro cell and expression levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and COX-2 |
