제목 Synthesis and Ligand exchange of Ag₂S Colloidal Quantum Dots for Bio-applications
초록 Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are promising infrared semiconducting materials owing to their tunable optical and emission characteristics. Especially, Ag2S CQDs have been attracted in bioimaging and biolabeling because of their low-toxicity.

Here we synthesize Ag2S CQDs exhibiting photoluminescence (PL) emission in the infrared range. The as-synthesized CQDs dispersed in non-polar solvent were treated with ligand exchange using 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA). This ligand exchange enables to tune the solvent dispersion from non-polar solvent to water, which is essential to be used in bio-applications. The MUA-capped CQDs show PL emission at 1040 nm.

By using these CQDs, we perform cell viability test to demonstrate low-toxicity of Ag2S CQDs. The result shows that cells retain 100 % after 24 hours, which suggests low-toxicity Ag2S CQDs and proves their bio-compatibility.
