For many years, the research for reflective structural color of photonic crystal which arises from reflection of light corresponding to their forbidden photonic band gaps has been extensively studied. In this research, self-assembled block copolymer photonic crystal is presented and switching property is demonstrated. To develop visible range structural color block copolymer photonic crystals, domain swelling agents such as solvents and ionic liquids are employed and the reservoir is coated on the self-assembled lamellar structure. The block copolymer photonic crystals become highly sensitive in swelling and de-swelling of microdomains upon applied field. This electrically switchable photonic film shows R, G, B full-color structural colors. This stimuli-sensitive change of the block copolymer photonic crystals in their structures as well as dielectric constants opened up a possibility for the applications of displays, sensors, e-books which can operate in low-power reflective mode. |
