In this paper, to study the irradiation effect of polyethylene (PE) separator for lithium ion battery, commercial PE separators (SK (12, 20, and 25m)) were irradiated by electron beam (EB) at 50, 100, 150, and 200 kGy, respectively. The degree of crosslinking of EB-irradiated PE separators increased with an increase in the absorption dose of the electron beam. Mechanical and thermal properties of the irradiated PE separators were evaluated by UTM and DMA. The effect of EB irradiation on the electrochemical properties of the prepared separators, such as the ionic conductivity and shutdown function was studied by electrochemical AC-impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the EB-irradiated separators had better modulus, heat resistance and shutdown behaviors than the non-irradiated PE separator. |
