제목 A Study on the Quantification of natural resource consumption for metal production, using material flow analysis : focused on steel and iron
초록 In this study, the natural resource usage due to steel production in Korea was quantified in life cycle and global terms. Specially, this study quantified directly used materials (Direct flow) and indirectly used materials (Hidden flow) for steel and iron production. Material Flow Analysis (MSA: Material System analysis and MIPS: Material input per service) was carried out. In 2005, 71 million tons of raw materials were used to produce $17.6 million of added value and 4.8 thousand tons of finished steel. The amount of natural resources extracted from natural environments for the purpose of steel production was 245 million tons of TMR, 1524 million tons of water, and 34 million tons of air. The material intensities for steel production by natural inputs (raw materials and energy) was 4.3 tons/tons of TMR, 28 tons of water, and 0.5 tons of air. Material intensity refers to the consumption amount required to produce one unit of a material.
