제목 A Comparison Study of PMMA/Silica Nanocomposite Particles by UV-induced Graft Polymerization: Batch and Continuous-flow Reactions
초록 PMMA/Silica nanocomposite particles were prepared by UV-induced graft polymerization of methyl methacrylate via two different reactions: batch and continuous-flow reactions. The resulting nanocomposite particles were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). Substantial increase in average particle size was observed after grafting of methyl methacrylate onto silica surface in both reactions. However, the particle sized decreased after 25 min of irradiation in batch reaction due to degradation of the grafted polymer chains after prolonged exposure to UV radiation. In the case of continuous-flow reaction, the average particle size of the composites increased linearly with reaction time. Thermogravimetric analysis of the composites indicted the polymer content in good agreement with SEM analysis. FT-Raman spectroscopy and XPS studies of pure silica nanoparticles and PMMA/Silica nanocomposites revealed the successful grafting of methyl methacrylate onto the silica surface in both cases.
