Biodegradable polymer has been widely used for the application of packaging film. However, it has some drawbacks in thermal, mechanical, and barrier properties. To overcome these problems, in this study, PLA nanocomposite film was produced using various organoclays(Cloisite 15A, 20A, 25A, 30B) via both twin-extrusion compounding and single-extrusion casting film processes. The degree of intercalation was evaluated by determining the basal spacing from the peak in XRD patterns. TEM images showed that both intercalated and exfoliated structure was coexisted in the nanocomposite with C30B, but in other nanocomposites, only intercalation without exfoliation was observed to be occurred. The viscoelastic and tensile mechanical properties of PLA nanocomposites with different organoclay was also investigated by DMA and UTM instrument. In addition, barrier properties of the produced nanocomposite films were studied by the measurement of the oxygen and water vapor permeability. |
