Tensile, Dynamic Mechanical and Electrical Properties of PMMA/Carbon Nanotubes Nanocomposites |

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were used to enhance mechanical and electrical properties of polymers. In this experiment, we prepared poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)/CNTs composites and three kinds of CNTs, pristine CNTs (RCNT), chopped CNTs (SCNT) and acid treated CNTs (MCNT), were used to compare an effect of length and attached functional group of CNTs on the dispersion. Further, the composites were fabricated by two methods; solution-precipitation process and melt mixing. In the solution-precipitation method, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were sonicated in the dimethylformamide solution of PMMA and the mixed solution was precipitated into ethanol. The precipitated PMMA/CNTs were then melt blended with neat PMMA by an internal mixer. Tensile, dynamic mechanical and electrical properties of the PMMA/CNTs composites were evaluated. |
