제목 Synthesis and characterization of novel sulfonated polybenzoxazoles for proton exchange membrane applications
초록 Fuel cells are electrochemical devices that convert chemical energy into electrical energy. Proton exchange membrane plays a key role in fuel cell technology. Sulfonated perfluorocopolymers such as Nafion and Flemion have been recognized as the best materials due to their high proton conductivity and excellent chemical stability. However, these copolymers have some disadvantages in high cost, reduced conductivity at high temperature, and high methanol permeability. The development of new polymer electrolyte membranes have been also necessitated by the fact that commercial Nafion membrane do not meet the requirements.
In this study, we will present the synthesis and characterization of sulfonated polybenzoxazoles by the polycondensation of aromatic dihydroxy diamine with a novel desulfonated dicarboxylic acid using polyphosphoric acid as the polymerization media. The basic and electrochemical properties of these resulting copolymers as a proton exchange membrane will be discussed.
