pH-dependent Drug Release Behavior of Chitosan-Alginate Blend Containing Activated Carbon |

Chitosan-alginate blend particles were prepared for a drug delivery carrier. In order to increase the loading capacity of dug, activated carbon was incorporated as an adsorbent of drug due to the extremely high surface area and pore volume. The composite of chitosan-alginate blend and activated carbon was studied by SEM and XRD to investigate the surface morphology and structural characteristics. The drug release from the composite was carried out at various pH conditions in order to investigate the optimized dissolution condition of chitosan-alginate matrix. It was confirmed that the efficiency of drug loading was improved by activated carbon and the drug was released mostly at basic pH condition. |
