Rod-type liquid crystals with reactive acrylate end group have been recently applied to optical compensation film for wide viewing angle in LCDs. Hydroquinone or 4-hydroxy-aniline base rod-type liquid crystals have been known for this purpose but pheneylenediamine based LC is rare. In this study, we have designed and synthesized N,N’-(1,4-phenylene)bis(4-(6-acryloyloxyhexyloxy)benzamide) as a H-bonding enhanced rod-type LC based on p-phenylenediamine(PPDA). And in order to control the transition temperature we also have studied methyl substituent effect on the PPDA as well as alkyl chain length. Phase transition behaviors have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). |
