Radial-hierarchy mesoporous carbon sphere for high-performance supercapacitors |

Ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) have large surface area, uniform pore distribution, porosity, and physical and chemical stability. However, the long pore channels and the monotonous arrangement of pores in OMCs hinder their application in energy storage. We synthesized mesoporous carbon hollow spheres (MCHSs) by “Dualtemplating method” with dandelion-like silica spheres (DSSs) as the template. Through the dual-templating method, the MCHSs replicated the mesoporous shell of DSSs as a thick mesoporous shell but substituted the clogged core with hollow-core. The combined structure with mesoporous carbon shell and hollow has more advantages than conventional OMCs. The radial and hierarchical pores in the shell provide a large surface area (1319 m2•g-1) and short diffusion path. The hollow allows space for the improvement of ion mobility and electrolyte retention. Also, the dense structure provides more compact packing and high tap density when MCHSs were used as an electrode. The MCHSs exhibit high specific capacitance and well-developed EDLC shape (10~1000 mV•s-1). The results show a superior performance compared with other recent OMCs allotropes. |
