Energy storage has become the critical issue for the world's future energy supply. The redox flow batteries offer the best combination of energy efficiency and life-cycle costs compared with other technologies. Redox flow batteries are designed to convert and store the electrical energy into the chemical energy and release it when required. Polysulfone/silica hybrid membrane is prepared by the sol-gel process and employed as the separator for Zn-Br redox flow battery. polysulfone/silica hybrid membrane was prepared from polysulfone, 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane as the coupling agent, tetraethyl orthosilicate as silica precursor and dimethylformamide as the solvent. The characteristic properties of the polysulfone/silica hybrid membranes are investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and electrical resistance meter. polysulfone/silica hybrid membrane sucessfully prevent the bromine crossover which is necessary for the redox flow battery. |
