Synthesis of Polythiophene Derivative for High Open Circuit Voltage of Organic Photovoltaic Cells |

Bulk hetero-junction (BHJ) concept, formed by blending conjugated polymer as donor and a fullerene derivative as acceptor is regarded as the ideal system for photovoltaic cells. Despite the attractiveness of low-cost processing, organic photovoltaic cells are still limited by low power conversion efficiency compared to inorganic devices. Recently, to improve the efficiency, a variety of attempts have concentrated on achieving high open-circuit voltage (Voc). In this study, we focus on energy level tuning of conjugated polymers using oxygen, and report on synthesis and characteristics of polythiophene derivative to increase Voc by introducing an oxygen in the alkyl side chain. In addition, we confirmed the performance of devices fabricated by using this new polythiophene derivative. |
