Divalent Metal-mediated Formation of Polymeric Nanoparticles via End-modified Block-copolymers with Pyrene Fluorophore |

A series of block-copolymers containing poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(acrylic acid) were synthesized via nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization with mPEG-modified alkoxyamine initiator. The resulting copolymers were end-functionalized with maleimide-modified pyrene, a well-known fluorescence probe. Pyrene-labeled block-copolymers were then subjected to encapsulate the biologically active metal ions, such as Mn(II), which can lead to the formation of core/shell-type polymeric nanoparticles in aqueous solution. The pyrene fluorophore further allows for the enhanced colloidal stability and a concomitant monitoring of drug-release. |
