Direct-arylation polymerization by N-heterocyclic carbene palladium-based systems has been carried out and investigated. A main-chain alternating and side-chain regioregular poly(3-hexylselenophene-alt-3-hexylthiophene) (Alt-P3HST) with molecular weight of 20.0K g/mol was successfully synthesized. Alt-P3HST exhibits various advantages, such as more red-shifted absorption maximum than P3HT and better solubility relative to P3HS. On the other hand, pentacyclic dithieno[3,2-b:6,7-b’] fluorenes (DTFs) were polymerized with dithienodiketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) acceptors to afford three alternating donor–acceptor copolymers PDTFDPP16, PDTFDPP20, and PDTFDPP32 incorporating different aliphatic sidechains. The side-chain variation plays a significant role in determining not only the intrinsic molecular properties but also the intermolecular packing. The OFET device using PDTFDPP20 with a face-on orientation determined by GIXS measurements achieved a hole mobility of 5 cm2 V−1 s−1. |
