Electrochemical water separation to O2 and H2 using double perovskite electrocatalysts |

Electrolysis creates an electrochemical reaction by using electric current to catalysts. Electrolysis is widely used in processes of water electrolysis which separates and produces H2 gas and O2 gas from water molecules. For highly efficient water electrolysis, stable catalysts with good electrochemical performance needs to be developed, Perovskite structured materials have been studied as a catalyst for water electrolysis for many years due to its outstanding chemical properties. Here, we design a tungsten based double perovskite structured catalysts by a modified solid-state method, where tungsten has great electrochemical properties. To further increase the catalytic properties and conductivity, transition metals like nickel are doped in the b-site, which was found to form a strong bonding structure with tungsten. The electrochemical performances are evaluated by the liner sweep voltammetry (LSV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements using rotating disk electrodes (RDE) system. Moreover, depending on the doped active metals, we investigate each electrolysis mechanisms to find a high performance electrocatalyst. |
