Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) is considered to be an efficient energy source of mobile and transportation applications. The PEMFC consists of several parts such as membrane electrode assembly(MEA), bipolar plates, gasket, gas diffusion layer(GDL). Among them, the electrode, which is the main part of the MEA, is one of the most important parts and the whole cell performance is dependent on its characteristics. In order to confirm effect of the composition of the electrode on a PEMFC performance, we have investigated several electrodes which were prepared by varying both the composition of catalyst ink and the quantity of Pt/C in coating layer. The Nafion content in the catalyst was varied from 12 to 17 wt.% for 0.4 mg/cm² of Pt loading. Pt loading was varied from 0.1 to 1.0 mg/cm² for 23 wt.% of Nafion content. The best performance of MEA composed of 17 wt.% Nafion content and 1.0 mg/cm² of Pt loading was obtained 0.733 and 0.706 V at 500 mA/cm², respectively. |
