Reduced graphene oxide nanosheets intercalated in monodisperse starburst carbon spheres for EDLCs |

In this study, we report nanohybrid of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets at which monodispersed starburst carbon spheres (MCSCs) are intercalated for high-performance supercapacitor electrodes. MSCSs that have large surface area increase the interspacing between rGO nanosheets as a result of intercalation, forming electrical double layers that store energy. The structure of these electrodes provides a path that facilitates the movement of ions and electrons. The specific capacitance of the hybrid electrode is 25 F cm-3 at a constant current of 0.073 A cm-3, 2.5-fold higher than that of rGO electrodes. We show the hybrid electrode has an 81% rate-retention capability when the specific current changes from 0.073 to 1.5 A cm-3. The initial capacitance of this hybrid electrode has a constant value that does not change nearly 100% for 5000 charge / discharge cycles. The electrode also has a high power density of 2.7 W cm-3 and an energy density of 1.7 mWh cm-3. |
