Polymer particle with micro and nano-scale have received considerable attention because of their potential application in photonics, conducting materials, sensors, medicine and biotechnology. We successfully fabricated polymer particle from commodity resin using the solubility difference of a polymer at two different solvents, viz the nanoprecipitation method. After dissolving low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, and polystyrene in 1,2-dichlorobenzene, tetrahydrofuran and then adding a non- solvent, allows the formation of polymer particles. Solvent concentration of the polymer play key role, and also influences the pore size and morphology of polymer particles. Shape, size and the particle surface, were analyzed by dynamic light scattering and scanning electron microscope measurements. |
