In recent years, a process has been suggested that can conduct CO2 mineralization and desalination at the same time. In order to estimate the economical efficiency and the CO2 mitigation potential of the suggested process, TEA(Techno-Economic Analysis) and CO2 LCA(Life Cycle Assessment) were performed in this research. The process was modeled by Aspen plus® and Matlab®. Water production cost which is defined as required cost to produce unit drinking water was chosen as an economic barometer considering the property of this process. To improve the performance of the process, sensitivity-based optimization was also carried out, resulting in enormous reduction in electrical energy consumption. As a consequence, EDI-based desalination and integrated CO2 mineralization seems to be a promising process to reduce CO2 emissions while generating economic benefits, when only taking into account utility costs and revenue in TEA. |
