Janus particles are special types of nano/micro particles with two sides of different physical or chemical properties. The focus of in the work is on Janus particles with self-propelling and their potential applications as a sensor properties. Pt-coated spherical polystyrene are fabricated by sputtering Pt on the hemisphere of colloidal particles. A bubble propulsion based on catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide induces autonomous motion of Janus particles via the momentum change by O2 bubbles detaching from the catalytic surface. Moreover, Pt-coated polystyrene particles can interact with some analysis, such as dopamine molecules, to affect the motion and properties of Janus particles. The characteristics and motion of Janus particles were examined and traced by OM and HR-SEM. Especially, the effects of structural parameters on the motion were systematically investigated. |
