A versatile design strategy is introduced to develop multidentate oligomeric ligands for an array of inorganic nanoparticles (NPs), including quantum dots (QDs), Au and iron oxide. Multifunctional oligomers are consisted of a short backbone (polyacrylic acid) and several poly(ethylene glycol) segments which are laterally grafted by either thioctic acid (TA), dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA) or dopamine (without PEGs). TA and DLHA groups allow strong anchoring onto Au NPs and QDs, while catechols exhibit a specific affinity to iron oxide NPs. Resulting NPs exhibit remarkable colloidal stability over a broad range of conditions. |
