High selective rejection but not reduced flux may be the important property for water-filtration membrane. We have studied polymer surface coatings for creating very thin and powerful active layer atop of substrate membrane. Amphiphilic block copolymers have the ability to build self-assembled structures. Therefore, we studied a new blend system made by amphiphilic block copolymer and homopolymer for porous membrane. Amphiphilic block copolymer is A/B diblock copolymer comprised of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) and hydrophobic polyethylene(PE). They were blended with a water-soluble homopolymer. The A/B block copolymer and the homopolymer were coated alumina membrane. The coating was prepared by layer-by-layer deposition. It had a nanostructure which was induced by annealing. The homopolymer was selectively removed afterwards, therefore, a nanoporous structure was created. Finally, filtration property of the nanoporous film was studied. |
