제목 High performance n-type Bi2Te3-based materials with unusually off-stoichiometric compositions
초록 Thermoelectric materials are a promising renewable energy sources that generate electrical energy from the temperature gradient. While most of the recent advances in the enhancement of the thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) resulted from a decrease in lattice thermal conductivity by nanostructuring, there have been very few attempts to enhance power factor. Here, we report the remarkably enhanced power factor and a ZT of n-type Bi2Te3-based materials. We employed nanochemistry to stabilize bulk Bi2Te3 that goes beyond phase equilibrium. Obtained nanotubes are converted to bulk phases by sintering under high pressure and temperature. Incorporated potassium and tellurium in Bi2Te3 far exceeds their solubility limit, leading to simultaneous increase in the electrical conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient along with decrease in the thermal conductivity.
