제목 3-Dimensional Fabrication and Imaging of Photonic Bandgap Structures using Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy
초록 Photonic crystal is a periodic array of dielectric materials which is capable of manipulation of the light (confinement, bending, and guiding) within visible and NIR range. Due to its unique photonic bandgap property, it promises various applications in photonic devices such as micro-laser or no-loss waveguide which can be on-chip integrated. Recently, there have been increased interests in fabrication of photonic crystals via self-assembly methods such as colloidal crystallization and block copolymer (BCP) microphase separation.
Laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM) is a unique optical microscopic technique capable of 3-D imaging of various photonic crystals in non-destructive manner. When LSCM is coupled with NIR pulsed laser source, 3-D beam steering capability of LSCM also enables us to fabricate novel 3-D structures with submicron feature size. In this presentation, 3-dimensional fabrication and imaging of various photonic crystal structures using LSCM will be discussed. LSCM was successfully applied to multi-photon fabrication of 3D waveguide structure within colloidal crystals and their 3-D imaging. In addition, it will be also demonstrated that the investigation of 3-D morphology of various BCP self-assemblies including well-ordered lamellar and cylindrical BCP obtained by directional solidification. LSCM will enable us to explore a variety of unprecedented morphological phenomena related to BCP self-assembly.
