제목 Brown algae-mimetic alginate binder with improved desolvation and resilience for use in Si-based anode binder of a lithium ion battery
초록 Si-based anodes in lithium ion batteries (LIBs) have attracted public attention due to their exceptionally high theoretical capacity, but the use of Si-based anode with LIB faces the challenge of mechanical instability of Si particles during the charging/discharging process. Alginate and its derivatives have demonstrated promising performances as Si particles binders in the anode owing to improved modulus compared to commercial binders. Here, we show that calcium-mediated electrostatic cross-linking of alginate called “Egg-box” improves toughness, resilience, electrolyte desolvation of the alginate binder as Si-binder for LIB. Consequently, the improved mechanical properties of calcium alginate compared to the sodium alginate binder and other commercial binders are directly translated into enhancing lifetime and capacity of Si-based-anode LIB.
