Improvement of OLEDs efficiency with reducing metal impurities |

Metal impurities in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) can have an influence on the reduction of device performance and efficiency., Tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum, was introduced as a light emitting and electron transfer material for OLEDs. Metal impurities of synthesized-Alq3 make fatal effects to OLEDs. NaCl was mainly used to reduce water-soluble impurities. In this study, EDTA and DTPA were used as dedopping agents. These agents have a better capacity of getting rid of metal impurities specially Fe2+, Cu2+ etc. During the batch and continuous purifying process including recrystallization, evaporation, filtering, and sublimation processes. Alq3 layer was thermally evaporated onto the ITO-coated glass substrates. The observed IVL curve of Alq3 treated with dedopping agents suggests that interact with metal impurities. The performance of OLEDs would be affected by presence of Fe2+, Cu2+ etc. |
