제목 Comparative study of polyvinylpyrrolidone and poly(methacrylic acid) on formation of hydrophilic layer on the surface of silicon hydrogel contact lens
초록 To achieve a usable contact lens, oxygen permeability, wettability, material strength and stability must all be balanced. Silicone hydrogel (SH) contact lenses have silicone phase designed for oxygen transport and hydrogel phase for water transport. However, the SH lenses cannot be used without surface modification because silicone phase dominates the surface characteristics of the lenses, and thereby it is highly hydrophobic, tacky and liphophylic. In this study, the surface of SH lenses was exposed to O2 plasma to introduce hydroxyl group on the surface, and then silanized with a acrylsilane coupling agent. Finally, the acryl groups incorporated on the surface of SH lenses were radical-polymerized with N-vinylpyrrolidone and methacrylic acid to form hydrophilic polymers as surface coating layers of the lens.
